50 Years | 1976 - 2026

This year sees the Golden Anniversary of the Two Moors Way

It’s 50 years since the route was launched on 29 May 1976! Since that date thousands of walkers have enjoyed following the route across Devon and immersing themselves in our glorious local landscape.

From our beginning

Celebrations through the years

Cicerone Press published a guide to the route back in the 1990s, and in 2015 published a new updated and re-designed colour guidebook to mark the 40th anniversary (2016), with a further updated edition published in 2019. In 2016 the TMW website was launched, with accommodation and transport information and online shop. The revitalised Two Moors Way Association (TMWA) also refreshed the passport-and-stamp scheme.

2026 Circular Guided Walks

In 2026, the TMWA is marking the 50th anniversary by holding a series of circular guided walks, run by Exeter & District Group of the Ramblers. There will also be two linear walks on 29 May, meeting for tea (kindly provided by the local WI) at the Memorial Hall in Morchard Bishop, located roughly at the halfway point on the Two Moors Way – and we would love you to join us!

Walks are free to attend, but pre-booking is essential. To register your interest, please email jointhebigwalk@btinternet.com; for all other information email info@twomoorsway.org.
